Online classifieds advertisement portal, Quikr.com, has recently received an investment funding of Rs 200 million from Matrix Partners India and Omidyar Network. Quikr.com is the re-branded version of Kijiji.in. Quikr.com plans to use a part of this money for expansion and marketing purposes. The company is likely to spend most of its marketing money on search and online display advertisement apart from radio and print advertisement to create brand awareness. In terms of expansion, Quikr.com, which currently offers its services in 18 locations, is likely to make its services available to 25 more cities. Another area which Quikr.com aims to monetise is advertising leads. The company plans to sell the leads to small and medium business owners.

Online ad spend likely to see highest growth in next five years: Pwc (domestic E&M industry is estimated to grow at a CAGR of 10.5 % between 2009 and 2013)

The domestic entertainment and media (E&M) industry is estimated to grow at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.5 % between 2009 and 2013 to reach Rs93.9 billion, according to PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in its report for 2009. The E&M industry had registered a growth of 16.6 percent compounded annually during 2004-2008. This growth is likely to decelerate to 8 percent in 2009 because of a marked slowdown in advertising spending. In 2009, advertising spending is expected to touch 9.2 %. Advertising spending had grown by a CAGR of 17.3 percent during 2004-2008.

Leading handset vendors such as Nokia, Spice Mobile and Samsung are planning to load movies on their premium multi-media handsets. The vendors are launching phones with larger screens and higher memory capacities to enable the consumers to view movies better on their handsets. The handset manufacturers are also looking at opening mobile movie stores to enable consumers to buy or rent some of the latest movies.

Monster.com extends reach to rural India

Monster.com is trying to tap the job market in the rural areas of India. The portal has tied up with ITC e-Choupal to launch a job website named Rozgarduniya.com.
Targeted towards the youth, the job site will offer jobs across various categories such as teaching, automobile, textile, publishing and maintenance. The portal will be made accessible through the Internet kiosks set up by ITC e-Choupal to disseminate important information across 40,000 villages in nine states. Currently, the site is available in Hindi and English languages only and its services are offered in villages across Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Later, the services will be extended to other regional languages and cater to more states. The company has recently tied up with Dish TV to offer its job search service, MonsterJobs Active.

Coca Cola India is expected to launch its latest campaign for Sprite on the Internet. The digital campaign is likely to be launched in partnership with In.com on 8 Aug 2009. Coca Cola expects about four million views in the two days that the campaign is being aired online. In.com has a daily traffic of 9-10 million users online.

Star Plus premiers two shows online before releasing on-air

Star Plus on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 announced that it has premiered two television series – ‘Aap Ki Kachehri’ (Season 2) and ‘Sajan Ghar Jaana Hain’ (a drama) – on the Internet even before it has appeared on television. They appeared on Star Networks flagship video destination, Star Player
