410 private satellite TV channels get MIB nod to uplink from India

The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) has so far permitted 410 private satellite TV channels to uplink from India as per uplinking guidelines and 73 private satellite TV channels, uplinked from abroad, to downlink in India as per downlinking guidelines.

Colors bets on brawn with '100% De Dhana  Dhan'

Colors has announced its new show, 100% De Dhana Dhan as a replacement to their weekend reality show, India’s Got Talent. The show, based on '100% Lucha', an Argentine wrestling show, has been designed by Endemol India and is likely to run for 13 weeks on the channel. The show, which will introduce wrestling for the first time on a Hindi GEC, is likely to see 12 Indian wrestlers pitted against their South African counterparts. Veteran wrestler and actor, Dara Singh is likely to mentor the Indian team.

Rajat Sharma to launch second news channel, India TV  Wiz
August 14
Rajat Sharma led Independent News Service (INS) has got approval from the Information and Broadcasting Ministry to launch another next 24-hour news channel. After India TV, which was launched in August 2004, the company is likely to launch India TV Wiz.
India TV Wiz is being positioned as a premium news channel and will have shows in both English and Hindi. The channel is expected to go on-air in six months.

Sach Ka Saamna’ blinks, shifts to a new time  band of 11 pm from August 11

Channel V to go 'bloody cool' from August 22

Channel V, which languishes at the bottom of the music channels pile, needs to do something new to garner viewership and advertisers. The channel, with a market share that has risen marginally from 6 to 8 per cent in the past six months, is revamping from August 22. Ironically for the channel that created India's first reality show, Channel V Popstars, which introduced girl-band VIVA. But the channel, which has tried surviving on pure music-driven content for the longest time, had no other option but to give in, keeping audience trends and TRP pressure in mind.

Bangla GEC space gets a new player in Ruposi Bangla

The multi-faceted Rose Valley Group on August 24, 2009 announced their diversification into media and entertainment industry with the launch of Bangla general entertainment channel – Ruposi Bangla – in the Kolkata market. The channel is likely to go on air from August 31, 2009 with a bouquet of shows ranging from reality to socio-mythology, feature films to news updates, and from comedy to drama.

Some of the stories from comic book Amar Chitra Katha are likely to now debut in animated form on Cartoon Network and Pogo, the kids channel of broadcaster Turner International. Turner International has acquired the rights of some Amar Chitra Katha stories from ACK Media of Mumbai for a 26-episode series and two 70-minute films. It has acquired perpetual rights for the films and for seven years for the series in the Indian sub continent.
