Titan eyes 15-20% growth in watch sales (the company intends to open 40 World of Titan showrooms in 2009-2010)

Titan Industries Ltd expects to announce a growth of 15-20 percent in sales of watches for 2009-2010. The company intends to open 40 World of Titan showrooms during the year. Titan is planning to launch 400 new watches in 15 new watch collections. The company is offering a discount of 20 percent on watches in exchange of old watches. Titan had announced sales of Rs908 crore in watches for 2008-2009.

Consumer durables see bounty this festive season

Nielsen survey shows 74 per cent Indians bullish on personal finances. Encouraged by improving consumer sentiment, consumer durables companies have lined up new product launches and are increasing their advertising and marketing spends by anywhere between 10 and 60 per cent this year. They believe sales are likely to increase by 30-40 per cent in the festive months, even as analysts say the optimism is misplaced.
Godrej & Boyce, which registered 20-25 per cent growth in sales in the April-June quarter, expects to earn nearly Rs 700 crore in the four festive months starting September.
Whirlpool India, too, is looking at increasing its advertising and marketing spending by 10-15 per cent this financial year, from Rs 45 crore last year, thanks to the improving consumer confidence that has boosted the company’s sales by 30 per cent in the June quarter.
Hitachi Home & Life Solutions India (HHLI), a subsidiary of Hitachi Appliance, Japan, is targetting a 30 per cent increase in the total sales volume in the residential air-conditioner (AC) segment by the end of the present financial year.

Industrial output exceeds expectations, up 7% July August 28
The growth in IIP is estimated to have come from the double-digit growth in two-wheeler and car segments and consumer goods production. "While industry data for July is buoyant, with two-wheelers up 18.2 per cent, cars up 29.1 per cent, commercial vehicle up 5.1 per cent, we expect the July IIP to come lower at 5 per cent levels versus the surprisingly high 7.8 per cent reading in June," said Rohini Malkani, economist, Citi India, in a report yesterday.The growth in output of consumer non-durables comprising items like cars and appliances was flat in June, even as the quarter production decline d 4.6 per cent. Overall consumer goods production rose 3.8 per cent in June, aided by a 15.5 per cent expansion

Philips unveils modular switches (for the first time in India)

Philips India has launched modular switches for the first time in India. The company expects the modular switch market in India to grow by 20 percent over the next one year. Philips India's modular switches are priced between Rs. 90 and Rs. 150 each, and have features such as USB charger, FM radio and sockets.
