65. Catalogue Retailing Is Picking Up Momentum, Slowly & Steadily – January 28

Catalogue retailing gains popularity in India

Catalogue retailing is gaining popularity in India. The retailer benefits from the format by saving on rental costs for big malls and store management costs, and having a wider reach.  Shoppers, on the other hand, can place the order over the phone with the payment made online. Globally, catalogue retailing is a much developed platform, preceding even Internet shopping. In India, HyperCITY, the K. Raheja Group-promoted hypermarket chain, is promoting the idea with five of its stores operating in Thane. Croma of Infiniti Retail Ltd is considering a similar alternative and has been offering catalogues to consumers since April 2007, informing them of the on-going promotions and discounts in the store.
