The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, one of the leading names in global luxury hospitality, plans to establish its first hotel project in India in Bangalore. This Ritz-Carlton, to be developed by Nitesh Estates, will be a 250 room, five-star property. “India represents the next great international expansion opportunity for the Ritz Carlton”, said Simon F Cooper, President and CEO.

Sarovar Hotels establishes a new strategy to beat rising realty prices
Mumbai-based Sarovar Hotels has framed a new strategy to beat the rising realty prices. The company is in a land acquisition spree across the country and looking at the acquisition-cum-long-term lease formula to make its projects viable. Sarvor is targeting city centres, and the land, by and large, will be used to expand its limited service mid-market brand, Hometel. Sarovar plans to have 50 Hometels in the coming three to four years. The company is the master franchiser for the Park Inn (three-star full service) and Park Plaza (upper-end four-star) brands owned by the US-based Carlson Hospitality.

179. Hilton, DLF To Develop 10 Hotels – May 11
Ten hotels to be developed by Hilton in partnership with DLF
In partnership with DLF Ltd, US-based Hilton Hotels Corporation announced the development of 10 hotel projects in the country. The projects will be established in Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mysore, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar and Goa, under various brand names. The company aims to develop and own 50 to 75 hotels in five to seven years under the partnership.

US hospitality major, Carlson is taking 26% stake in a joint venture (JV) company ‘Elbrus Builders’ with Unitech group, to introduce the Regent hospitality brand in India. The JV will develop a luxury hotel with an estimated investment of Rs 450 crore at Greater Noida.

International hospitality majors, such as Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, Starwood Hotels and Resorts and Jumeirah International, are all planning to establish their presence in India. “We are looking at places, which have international appeal and provide an easy access. Unique destinations provide huge growth in the spa section. With business travels in India increasing by leaps and bounds, the number of resort destinations have also grown. The country is attracting a lot of tourists, and it is just the infrastructure that needed to be put in place”, said Christopher S L Wong, vice-president, business development, Asia Pacific.

Mumbai to come up with a five star hotel in 30 years
Marine Lines, in south Mumbai, will witness the first large five-star hotel in the past three decades. The Hyatt Hotel is being designed by international hotshot architects Fox and Fowles, the designers of the iconic Conde Nast, Reuters Buildings and the Times Square. The South Mumbai hotel project is a part of a three-hotel luxury project being developed by Neelkamal Realtors, in Mumbai, Pune and Goa. All three will be managed and operated by Hyatt.

Banyan Tree plans a Rs 150 Cr JV hotel in Kerala
Singapore-based hospitality group Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts is entering Kerala to start an Rs 150-crore joint venture luxury resort in a backwaters island of Chertalla in Kerala's Alapuzha district. According to Banyan Tree Chairperson Ho Kwonping, the resort, which will be the most luxurious in India, will have 60 traditionally built villas with contemporary interpretations, and each villa will have its own private swimming pool. The resort is expected to be ready by 2008.

New hotels to come up in Bangalore by 2012
The hotel construction industry in Bangalore is witnessing a high, as it attracts the greatest number of business travelers in south India. The city is expected to add over 3,000 rooms in the coming five years in the premium category, and a similar number in the service apartment segment. The development of the new international airport has attracted a number of hotel chains, including Radisson and JW Marriott, to the city. Other international hotel chains, such as Hilton in joint venture with DLF, Accor with Emaar MGF and Wyndham with Royal Orchid Hotel, are also venturing into the city's hospitality sector.
